Mercury General Reports Implements Salary Freeze, 7% Workforce Reduction

Mercury General reported net income in the first quarter 2009 was $96.7 million compared with net loss of $4 million for the same period in 2008. Included in net income are net realized investment gains, net of tax, of $50.7 million in the first quarter of 2009 compared with net realized investment losses, net of tax, of $59.9 million for the same period in 2008. Mercury Insurance Named One of America’s Most Trustworthy Companies

Los Angeles-based Mercury Insurance has been named as one of America’s 100 Most Trustworthy Companies in an annual survey commissioned by Forbes.com. Mercury is only one of 10 companies to appear on the list three years in a row, and the company achieved the highest score awarded for the second consecutive year. Aon Completes Sale of Auto Insurance Specialists to Mercury General

Aon reported they’ve completed the sale of Auto Insurance Specialists to Mercury General Corp.

Chicago-based insurance broker Aon Corp. has completed the sale of AIS Management, LLC, which is the parent company of Auto Insurance Specialists, LLC, to Mercury General Corp.

Aon said it received $120 million in cash at the closing on Jan. 2, and may receive potential earn out of up to $34.7 million in additional consideration payable over the two year period following the transaction closing date.
